JETBLUE REPORTS NARROWER THAN EXPECTED Q4 LOSS

JetBlue reported a narrower than expected loss in the fourth quarter and its first full-year profit in three years as an increase in traffic helped the discount airline compensate for skyrocketing fuel costs. The company lost $4M US in Q4 in contrast to a profit of $17M the year earlier.

Busy B.C. shows kick off 2008 with a bang; Series 2 starts today in Edmonton

Canada's only national series of independent travel trade shows got off of to a successful start last week in B.C., with agents turning out in force to the Addison shows in Victoria, Langley and Vancouver. "The BC series of shows was a great way to start the New Year," said Rex Armstead, president of ACT Communications, which puts on the Addison Shows. "Attendance was good at all three, and it was encouraging to see some brand-new exhibitors, particularly from the U.S. and Mexico." The Addison "A Team" launched the 2008 Spring Season in sunny Victoria last Tuesday at the Victoria Conference Centre. NETWORK ADDS ICELANDAIR TO LINE-UP

Network has announced the addition of Icelandair to its roster of airlines. Icelandair will commence service from Toronto in May, and will fly five times a week to Iceland and points beyond. They will also fly out of Halifax three times a week. U.S. LAWMAKERS MAKE LAST APPEAL TO DROP NEW BORDER PLAN

U.S. senators have made a last-ditch appeal, asking security officials to delay plans requiring new documents at the Canada-U.S. border starting Thursday. A bipartisan coalition of 19 senators has sent a letter to Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff, urging him to continue accepting oral declarations of citizenship until the passport rule goes into effect in June 2009. Last week, legislators in the House of Representatives also complained to Chertoff, saying the measures will threaten trade and tourism for many states at a critical time when the United States is in danger of slipping into a recession.
U.S. GIVES VIETNAM $1.4M FOR DIRECT FLIGHTS

Vietnam's national air carrier hopes to have direct flights between Ho Chi Minh City and Los Angeles within a year after the U.S. provided $1.4 million to help upgrade safety standards, an official said. The money will be used to ensure Vietnam's aviation safety and security procedures meet international standards required for all aircraft entering the United States, according to a statement from the U.S. Embassy in Hanoi.
