| BREAKING NEWS: DOMINICAN REPUBLIC OUT OF FUEL |
|
All airlines experiencing delays of up to two hours; schedules will be disrupted until Sunday Charmaine Pang As of yesterday, the Dominican Republic has run low on its supply of aviation fuel. This morning, TRAVELHotNews.com spoke to Stephen Hunter, COO of Sunwing, who confirmed the story. Every airline flying out of the Dominican Republic has less than ten per cent of their fuel requirements; there have been no reports as to why or how this situation came to be. Four years ago, a similar incident took place on the island. Flight schedules will be affected through Saturday. All airlines flying from the Dominican Republic are experiencing delays of 1.5 to 2 hours, as planes must stop at neighbouring islands to load up on fuel. A tanker was expected to arrive in port yesterday, and it is expected that all airlines will be back on schedule by Sunday morning.
