INDIA HOTELS STEP UP SECURITY
India asks hotels to revamp security systems after Mumbai incident; say this can happen anywhere and tourists should go on travelling
In a interview with Krishna Arya, Department of Tourism, Government of India Deputy Director General (Overseas Marketing), eTN learned that all hotels have been asked to revamped their security systems. Arya said: "Thorough checks will be carried out on all guests and non-guests entering the premises. More security forces are being deployed at strategic locations. There may be specialized security forces created in major cities in India. The entire security system is being made more effective with better technology put in place so that this does not happen again. Our government is doing its best trying to look into different areas to check how these measures can be done." [Full text and pictures]

TRAVELHotNews recently reported on the first annual Italy Symposium 2008 (held from November 7 to 12), which brought 86 tour operators, travel agents and media from Ontario to the region of Campania, Italy. As part of an initiative to showcase a side of Italy that is less familiar to Canadian tourists, the Canadian Travel Council Promoting Italy (CTCPI), along with the Italian Government Tourist Board (ENIT), explored charming seaside villages like Naples, Castellamare di Stabia, Sorrento, Positano, Amalfi, Ravello and Capri, as well as the architectural and gastronomic finds hidden in Avellino, Benevento and Caserta. Boomerang Tours and Holiday House South Pacific, of Thomas Cook North America, have launched the new Australia Pacific Touring (APT) brochure. APT will feature "Freedom of Choice Dining," which allows clients the freedom of dining early or late, with a group or alone and "Dine Around" dinners are available in select locations which. APT also offer's "Freedom of Choice Touring" which allows clients to choose from a range of activities available on tour.  Agents should also note that Boomerang Tours and Holiday House South Pacific are offering an incentive with the release of the new brochure that will allow agents to earn in addition to their commission overrides and IntairPoints or Holiday Points. NCL SUSPENDS FUEL SUPPLEMENT
Norwegian Cruise Line announces suspension of fuel supplement effective for all 2009 departures; will refund supplement as on-board credit for all 2009 bookings
Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL) announced that it is suspending the company's fuel supplement effective immediately for all voyages departing in 2009. NCL will refund the fuel supplement in the form of an on-board credit for all 2009 bookings within the final payment period. All existing 2009 bookings outside of the final payment period will be adjusted to remove the fuel supplement and NCL will revise the final payment amount. NCL will continue to closely monitor global fuel prices to assess whether a reinstatement of the fuel supplement will be necessary in the future. [Full text and pictures]

Associates from Travel Professionals International (TPI), participated in a TPI-exclusive familiarization trip to the island nation of Barbados, presented by WestJet Vacations and the Barbados Tourism Authority, on Nov. 26 to Dec. 2 2008. Eighteen TPI agents took part in the familiarization trip, visiting resorts offered by WestJet Vacations, as well as local tourist attractions. Highlights included celebrating Barbados Independence Day, swimming with turtles, and a jungle safari. "A large part of an agent's value comes from their understanding of destinations," said Emilyn Salvador, TPI's National training manager, who led the excursion, "and nothing says knowledge like first hand experience." AIR FRANCE'S BUSINESS CLASS EXTENSION
Air France announces extension of Business Class sale through Dec. 31, 2008
Air France is extending its Paris Business Class sale through Dec. 31, 2008. This sale offers passengers a flexible fare to Paris, in Business Class, from seven U.S. gateways. Fares are valid for travel in Business Class and must be purchased at least seven days in advance of travel through Jan. 31, 2009. Tickets must be booked by December 31, 2008. Please note that travel must be only on Air France operated flights from U.S. gateways to Paris. Fuel surcharge is included in fares. Government imposed fees and taxes of approximately $80 to $150 are additional, including September 11 security fee of up to $10 per round-trip. Changes and refunds are permitted. Additional conditions apply. Fares are subject to class of service availability and may be changed or withdrawn without notice. [Full text and pictures]
