Heffron just celebrated 15 years at Transat in June 2008. Prior to that, her first job in the industry was at Sunquest. Heffron grew up in St. Catharines, Ontario until she was 18, and then she moved with her family to London, Ontario to coincide with her first year of university. Graduating with an Honours degree in English literature from the University of Western Ontario, she began her working life as a writer and publisher. She owned one arts-based publication and worked for several others.Her leap to the travel industry came with her childhood friend Nancy Jackson (currently Transat and Nolitours' Commercial Director). The Cayman Islands Department of Tourism has announced the appointment of Noreen Cartwright as Country Manager, Canada. Cartwright, based in the Toronto office, will oversee marketing efforts for the destination, responsible for increasing brand awareness among Canadian consumers and further strengthening relationships with the trade. "Noreen brings extensive sales and destination marketing experience to the Cayman Islands and she shares our passion for the brand and a commitment to growing the number of Canadian visitors with the support of our travel industry partners," said Shomari Scott, Director of Tourism for the Cayman Islands Department of Tourism. "Her leadership and strategic understanding of our brand's positioning within the global market will serve the destination well in Canada, a country that is very important to our success in the tourism industry." Hola Sun has announced their price match policy for 2008/2009 travel to Cuba. The price matches must be based on a net to net difference per person excluding taxes. The price match policy is valid only for ITC and ABC products departing from Toronto. Departure dates must be either the same day or on weekend flights: Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, and price match information must be the same duration, gateway, resort, meal/service, plan/room type. Yesterday TRAVELHotNews reported on the State of Virginia welcoming a new direct flight to Richmond with Air Canada. Please note that the new Air Canada route flies daily non-stop service from Toronto to Richmond with two flights every business day (Mon-Fri) on Dash 8 aircraft operated by Air Canada Jazz. And, that 513,000 Canadians travelled to Virginia in 2007 (the most recent figures) - a 10 per cent increase over 2006.


TICO APPROVES COMPENSATION FUND
TICO's board of directors announces approval of $75,711.98 in compensation payments
On November 25, 2008, TICO's board of directors approved payment of $75,711.98 assisting 71 consumers who did not receive the travel services for which they had paid. These payments were due to the closure of Aero Canadian Tour and Travel in Scarborough ($13,170.00); Aloha Airlines in Honolulu ($1,487.50); Lifedream Travel and Tours in Toronto ($58,432.65); Nationwide Airlines in South Africa ($432.78) and Zoom Airlines in Ottawa ($2,189.05). The Board also denied seven claims. Two claims were denied on the basis that they were received beyond the legislated six month filing deadline. [Full text and pictures]
