 |
| Sean Durfy, CEO of WestJet | | In an interview with the Globe and Mail, WestJet CEO Sean Durfy discussed several big moves that the airline will be making in the New Year. Durfy said WestJet is looking for more airline partners and that he “would like to see two more deals in 2009.” Continued Durfy, “We're getting our systems in place to do that. We want to have some announcements soon on code-sharing agreements for implementation in 2010, depending on the complexity of them. They are the usual suspects that we've talked about – Air France, KLM, British Airways, Cathay Pacific.” The CEO noted that he was open to partnering with various airlines, whether one partner for transatlantic flights and another partner for transpacific flights, but asserted that “we will do code-sharing with a partner that has the best corporate culture, that allows us not to dilute the low-cost model that we have.”

Israel enjoys another record-breaking year; over 3 million visitors welcomed in 2008
More visitors came to Israel in 2008 than in any year since the independent State of Israel was founded in 1948. "This is the first time ever more than 3 million tourists came to Israel in a single year," said Arie Sommer, Israel's Tourism Commissioner for North and South America, "and this underscores Israel's attractiveness to travelers of all nationalities, faiths, ethnic backgrounds and interests." The United States is Israel's number one source of tourism, with the United Kingdom, Russia and France the runners-up. "Close to three-quarters of a million North Americans visited Israel in 2008 - also a record," added Sommer. For more information on travelling to Israel, visit goisrael.ca.
