Yesterday evening, at Toronto’s Park Hyatt Hotel, an intimate group of media gathered together at a press conference celebrating the arrival of Mexico Tourism Board’s Alfonso Sumano, the new Regional Director for Canada. Sumano began by saying how happy he was to have the opportunity to be back in Canada. He pointed out his strong connection to the Canadian market and how it was noticed by members of the tourism board. “Right before coming back my wife told relatives that ‘we’re coming back home,’ and that’s how I feel,” Sumano told the crowd. AIR TRANSAT JOINS IATA
Air Transat becomes member of the International Air Transport Association

Air Transat has been admitted as an official member of the International Air Transport Association (IATA), becoming the second Canadian passenger carrier currently part of this organization. Yesterday morning, IATA’s Doug Lavin, Vice-President for North America, and Gunther Matschnigg, Senior Vice President Safety, Operations and Infrastructure gave the official membership certificate to Air Transat’s President and CEO Allen B. Graham. IATA has 230 members in 125 countries, representing 93 percent of scheduled international air traffic. Earlier this year Air Transat obtained IOSA (IATA Operational Safety Audit) registration, which means that an airline meets all IOSA standards and confirms its commitment to safety.

ETIHAD IS FIRST
Etihad Airways became the first airline from the Gulf region to fly to Belarus this week when the Abu Dhabi-based carrier launched a twice-weekly service to the country’s capital, Minsk.
AIR CANADA 83% OF ITS FILLS SEATS

Air Canada filled 83 per cent of its seats in July, matching a July 2005 record load factor and above a year-before 81.8 per cent last July. But Canada's biggest airline said Friday its overall system traffic was down 0.6 per cent as capacity was reduced two per cent as the carrier adjusted to softening demand.
ACE RESULTS ANNOUNCED
ACE Aviation Holdings Inc. reported a net income of $830 million for the second quarter of 2008. This included pre-tax gains of $908 million from the sale of Aeroplan and Jazz units in the quarter. ACE recorded an operating loss of $2 million for the quarter.
