BAA STARTS LEGAL ACTION Canadian Press Britain's dominant airport operator, BAA, said Tuesday it has started legal action over non-payment of landing fees by Ryanair Holdings PLC, Europe's biggest budget airline. Ryanair said in April that it would not pay the higher charges imposed by BAA at London's Stansted Airport, arguing they were excessive. BAA, which is owned by Spain's Ferrovial SA, increased the fee levied on each departure or arrival at the airport by around seven per cent on April 1. |

HONG KONG EXCEEDS 14M IN 1st HALF Visitor arrivals in Hong Kong in the first six months of 2008 increased by 8.9 per cent to a figure of 14,185,504, the Hong Kong Tourism Board has just announced. This figure includes 2,147,926 arrivals in the region in the month of June alone, which represents a year-on-year growth of 5.6 per cent. Canadian arrivals numbered 197,281 which translates to a 13.1 per cent growth over last year’s first-half figure. Late in June, however, it was noted that Canadian arrivals were showing a downturn, most likely caused by the closure of Oasis Hong Kong Airlines, a cutback of over 2,000 seats per week. |
