HOLA SUN RAISES FUEL SURCHARGE
Hola Sun has announced they are raising their fuel surcharge to $255 per person as of today - August 1, 2008. The new surcharge is applicable for departures from November 1, 2008 onwards.
CONNECTICUT’S ICE CREAM TRAIL
Eastern Connecticut has created an official Ice Cream Trail which helps visitors find the best spots for locally produced, often homemade, ice cream while enjoying the sights along the way. AIRLINERS/ATOURZ APPRECIATION EVENING
Seventh annual appreciation evening and golf tournament hosted at Angus Glen golf club

Yesterday evening marked the seventh edition of the Airliners/ATOURZ Appreciation golf tournament and dinner at Angus Glen golf club in Markham, Ontario.  Approximately 100 attendees from the travel industry, representing top-producing travel agents, the media, tourist boards, airlines and other suppliers participated in the all-day event.  Maurice Heroux, VP of Business Development & Marketing, Airliners, served as the evening’s emcee. Heroux continued the evening with a bit of levity, warming up the crowd with a joke before dinner. After dinner concluded, golf tournament and lucky draw prizewinners were announced. JAMES JOSEPH SMITH MEMORIAL
Founder of Maritime Travel passes away on July 28th; memorial service today in Halifax
As announced in ACTA’s Scoop newsletter, James Joseph Smith, the founding President of Maritime Travel, passed away on July 28th. Smith’s funeral was held yesterday in Halifax at the J.A. Snow Funeral Home; a memorial service will be held today in Halifax at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in Halifax, with interment to follow in Dartmouth Memorial Gardens.  Contributions to the Abilities Foundation of Nova Scotia or the Aplastic Anemia and Myelodysplasia Association of Canada would be appreciated in place of sending flowers. Email condolences may be sent to condolences.snow@ns.aliantzinc.ca. The travel industry veteran spent over 40 years in the business. Air Canada's corporate customers will now have access to a dedicated and
secure application at zerofootprint flights.com that will provide a customized solution for offsetting carbon emissions generated by business
travel. Corporations will be able to upload travel data easily, select a percentage of travel to offset, purchase offsets online, and have the ability
to access and review their past transactions.     The airline and Zerofootprint are also expanding the number of carbon offset projects to support.
NYC IS #1 IN TOURISM SPENDING
According to Global Insight research, New York City jumped two positions from its 2006 standing, overtaking Orlando, Florida and Las Vegas, Nevada to capture the top spot in total tourism spending for 2007. The influx of international visitors, who stay longer and spend more than their domestic counterparts, is driving New York City growth. In fact, New York gained about 1.5 million overseas visitors last year and increased its share of total international visitors by 3.3%. In 2007, New York City welcomed a record 46 million visitors who collectively spent $28.85 billion, a gain of 16% since 2006.
