Transportation agency clears pets to board Air Canada passenger flights Canadian Press
Air Canada has been ordered to clear pets for takeoff on its domestic passenger flights after a ruling by the Canadian Transportation Agency. The agency has ruled Air Canada must resume carrying small animals in the baggage compartment on flights within Canada as of May 5, and also on international flights. Jadrino Huot, a spokesman for the agency in Ottawa, said the revisions were considered ``unreasonable'' as they exposed pet owners to ``many significant disadvantages''. The ruling came in response to a complaint filed by Peter Griffiths. Air Canada stopped allowing pets on domestic passenger planes last July, forcing travellers to put their pets on cargo flights. Its plan to do the same for international flights was suspended by the agency last summer.

Computer problems lead to more delays at Heathrow's new terminal Canadian Press
Problems continue to plague the baggage handling system at newly opened Terminal 5 at London's Heathrow Airport. A computer glitch is blamed for the most recent problems at the terminal, opened with great fanfare in late March. The new terminal - solely used by British Airways - ran into severe problems on its first day of operation. In the following days, hundreds of flights were cancelled and thousands of bags left behind because of breakdowns in the new luggage handling system. The new problems were a bitter blow for British Airways. After enduring one of its most difficult weeks, the airline said Friday that the terminal was ``running very well.'' But today, the airline announced that 12 short-haul flights had to be cancelled. Meanwhile, departure boards at Terminal 5 showed delays of up to three hours.
