RYNAIR $1.2M FOR MILAN
Europe's Ryanair said yesterday that it plans to invest $1.2US billion to expand service to Milan. Ryanair said it plans to open routes at Milan's main international airport, Malpensa, and expand its presence at Orio al Serio. The company will discuss its offer in a meeting with Malpensa officials on Friday. (CP)

Yesterday evening, at Bistro 990 in Toronto, Air New Zealand celebrated the arrival of its new Vancouver – Auckland non-stop service with select media and travel agents. The evening highlighted Air New Zealand’s return to Vancouver, along with a sampling of wines from all regions of New Zealand provided by Robert Ketchin, Marketing Manager for Canada, New Zealand Winegrowers. FIRST EVER CARIBBEAN WEEK
The sights, sounds and tastes of the Caribbean will come to Canada Sept. 26-30th
The Caribbean will come to Canada at the end of September, with over 30 Caribbean nations coming together in Toronto to celebrate Caribbean Week from September 26 to September 30th. The week’s events will be organized by the Canadian office of the Caribbean Tourism Organization (CTO), which has been putting on successful Caribbean Week events in New York City for the past six years. ELLEIPSIS SECURES 4 NEW AGREEMENTS
Elleipsis Inc. announces several new travel company partnership agreements
Elleipsis, Inc., a travel technology company and provider of aggregated travel services, announced the completion of four new agreements that were secured over the past month with travel industry companies; cFares, Trip Jane, Rev Master, and CheapTicketsCanada yesterday. The first of the four agreements is with online search-based travel site cFares. Elleipsis web-based services gives cFares customers access to the inventory of the major Global Distribution Suppliers (GDS), which allows for greater selection of travel content for cFares customers. Additionally, the company has entered into several other portal agreements, which include: San Francisco-based Trip Jane; Rev Master, an Indiana based travel company; and CheapTicketsCanada. EMIRATES GETS GOVERNMENT APPROVAL
Emirates Airline officially receives Canadian government approval to fly from Toronto to Dubai
Dubai-based Emirates Airline has officially received Canadian government approval to begin flying from Toronto to Dubai October 29, 2007, the airline announced yesterday. The non-stop service between Toronto and Dubai will operate three times a week with the first flight from Toronto departing Pearson International Airport on Monday, October 29, at 9:40 p.m.  The Toronto-Dubai non-stop service will take just over 13 hours and 14 hours, 20 minutes on the return journey. HH Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al-Maktoum, Chairman and Chief Executive, Emirates Airline and Group said, “Responding to market demand, the new route will provide a first direct link between Canada’s largest city and Dubai, providing also convenient, ongoing access to the Middle East, Africa and the South Asian Subcontinent.” [Full text and pictures]

The proposal included in the 2008 budget reflects the Mexican President Felipe Calderon’s commitment to promoting tourism as a means of achieving social and economic development. The Secretary of Tourism expressed his confidence in the work being done in Congress with respect to the upcoming budget proposal. The proposed increase in tourism sector spending would largely be used to strengthen Mexico’s National Trust Fund for Tourism Development (FONATUR), the country’s premier developer of new, sustainable national tourist projects. CAISSE CONSORTIUM COMPLETES $2.5B SALE
Caisse de Depot has completed a $2.5 billion sale of Legacy Hotels
A consortium led by the Caisse de Depot et placement du Quebec has completed the $2.5 billion sale of Legacy Hotels Real Estate Investment Trust, operator of Fairmont and Delta hotels across Canada. The buyers include a partnership formed by InnVest Real Estate Investment Trust and Cadbridge Investors LP, a limited partnership formed by Cadim, a division of the Caisse and an affiliate of Westmont Hospitality Management Ltd. The partnership said it has acquired 94.5 per cent of Legacy, the country's largest hotel trust, for the previously announced price of $12.60 cash per unit. The offer expired late Thursday. Playa Hotels & Resorts, S.L. announces purchase of the Ocean Bavaro Spa and Beach Resort in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic  
Playa Hotels & Resorts, S.L., announced its acquisition of the 738 guestroom all-inclusive Ocean Bavaro Spa and Beach Resort in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic. The property will be re-branded as a Barceló Resort and renamed the Barceló Dominican Beach Resort.  The resort, 12 miles from the Punta Cana International Airport, also includes 3121 square feet of meeting space, a European-style spa facility, a theatre, and a new casino that was completed in June 2007. This is the third resort purchased in the Dominican Republic by Playa Hotels & Resorts.
