CTA RULES AGAINST NW/KL ON TAX REFUNDS
Air carriers Northwest and KLM must treat taxes and surcharges fairly, rules Canadian Transportation Agency
The Canadian Transportation Agency (CTA) has ruled against a Northwest/KLM scheme to charge consumers a USD 100.00 fee to refund taxes on unused, non-refundable tickets. The NW/KL "refund fee" tariff proposal was filed by the carriers with the CTA through the Airline Tariff Publishing Company (ATPCo). In their applications to the CTA, NW/KL stated that their refund departments have recently been inundated with requests for refunds of the tax portion of non-refundable fares.
