TURBOPROP INCIDENTS: EURO OFFICIALS WANT ANSWERS
European officials demand `crisis meeting' with Bombardier, Transport Canada; Porter, Hydro Quebec confident in Q400 planes
Canadian Press
SAS Q400 plane
Canadian companies flying Q400 turboprops made by Bombardier Inc. rushed to reassure passengers Monday while European officials called for an ``immediate crisis meeting'' to discuss a spate of crash landings involving the aircraft. A Bombardier Dash 8 Q400 aircraft operated by Scandinavian airline group SAS AB skidded along a runway in Copenhagen on the weekend after a landing gear failure. There were no serious injuries. It was the third crash landing in seven weeks at a European airport for the airline and its model of the Q400 regional aircraft. Focus shifted Monday to the age of the aircraft and SAS maintenance practices. All of the incidents involved SAS planes, which were among the first to roll off Bombardier's Downsview assembly line in Toronto in 2000. [Full text and pictures]
