JAPAN TAKES ANTI-TERROR MEASURES

Starting Nov. 20, Japan will fingerprint & photograph visiting foreigners as an anti-terror measure. Only some permanent residents, diplomatic visitors, and children under 16 will be exempt.

PORTER TAKES ACTION AGAINST AC, JAZZ
Porter Airlines seeks permanent injunction to unwind relationship between Air Canada and Jazz; demands $850M in damages
Porter Airlines has filed a Statement of Defence and Counterclaim in the Ontario Superior Court of Justice against Air Canada and Jazz Air LP seeking a permanent injunction to unwind the existing relationship between two of Canada’s largest airlines.  Porter alleges the arrangements violate the Competition Act, and is seeking damages in the amount of $850 million. The counterclaim alleges that Air Canada and Jazz have conspired to lessen competition in the passenger air services market. The counterclaim further alleges that Air Canada and Jazz have coordinated their activities in a common attempt to destroy or disable Porter Airlines’ business.  None of these allegations have been proven in court. The Orlando/Orange County Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB), along with several representatives from various entertainment corporations, held a media reception in Toronto on October 23rd at Canoe Restaurant. It was an opportunity to gain insight into the new attractions, adventures and the changing landscape of this fantasy-filled destination. Busch Gardens Africa/SeaWorld Orlando, Universal Orlando Resort and Walt Disney Parks and Resorts are all partners in one of the most aggressive advertising and marketing campaigns aimed toward Canadian travellers. ACCOR PLANS TO BOOST NETWORK

French hotel chain Accor said Tuesday it plans to expand its network of worldwide hotels by about 25 per cent by 2010, giving the French group a base of 5,000 hotels. The current network of around 4,000 hotels will be shaken up with divestments, rebrandings and refurbishing, the company said.
