President of Gran Caribe Group announces $35M set aside to make upgrades and renovations in Cuban hotel chain Jennifer Zalitack

| Luis Miguel Diaz Sanchez, President, Gran Caribe Grupo Hotelero; Carlos Zambrano, Director, Cuba Tourist Board | | An exclusive event was held last Thursday at Le Treport Banquet Halls in Mississauga where the president of Gran Caribe Hotel Group held a special presentation for travel agents and the media. Other hotel chains, tour operators and airlines were also present. The banquet hall was abuzz with festivities: abundant food, drink and Cuban music were on hand for the invited guests. Around 80 guests stopped in for the event. Luis Miguel Diaz Sanchez, President, Gran Caribe Grupo Hotelero said, “It’s an honour for our hotel company to have the chance to get together just before the starting of the winter season,” as translated by Carlos Zambrano, Director of the Cuba Tourist Board. The master plan, as told to TRAVEL HotNews, by Eduardo Gonzalez Valdes, Director of Marketing, is to prepare for the winter season between November and April. Not surprisingly, Valdes says this time is high season, with 600,000 Canadians visiting Cuba, out of a total number of 2.5 million tourists visiting each year.

The three South Pacific island nations of Fiji, Cook Islands and Papua New Guinea are hosting travel agents, media and other partners this week at in-depth training sessions in three major cities across Canada – Toronto, Victoria and Vancouver. Toronto’s event took place September 24, 2007 at the Delta Chelsea Hotel. Media attended a press conference in the early afternoon. This was followed by training sessions for travel agents, a dinner, additional presentations and several lucky draws. The islands of the South Pacific have an allure all their own. Fiji, the Cook Islands and Papua New Guinea offer the discriminating traveller distinctive experiences – and unforgettable memories.

| Philip Saunders,new CEO of Caribbean Airlines | | Philip Saunders to lead Caribbean Airlines, replaces Peter Davies Caribbean Airlines has announced that a new CEO, Mr. Philip Saunders has been appointed and will be starting his new role on October 1st, 2007. He will replace Mr. Peter Davies who will continue to be involved with Caribbean Airlines, acting as Strategic Advisor to the Board. Since the launch of the Task Force in the summer of 2005, under the Chairmanship of Mr. Arthur Lok-Jack, the airline industry of Trinidad & Tobago has undergone substantial change. Saunders served as Vice President Commercial at Star Alliance, the world’s largest airline alliance, and in senior management positions at British Airways, as well as providing the commercial direction to achieve the turnarounds at SN Brussels Airlines in Belgium and Deutsche BA in Germany.

Upscale hotel creates architectural design statement; features stylish B Lounge

| Lobby of the Barcelo Malaga | | Barceló Hotels & Resorts announced the opening of its second hotel in the Spanish province of Málaga. The hotel creates an architectural and upscale design statement with its innovative lobby that includes a sculpture designed by Catalan interior designer, Jordi Torres. The hotel is adjacent to the city’s new AVE train station, María Zambrano Station, and will connect Málaga to other key European cities by AVE high-speed train. The Málaga’s lobby introduces the Barceló brand’s new ‘B Lounge’ -- an avant-garde lobby concept that opens to the city, creating a social core for hotel guests, as well as residents. The new hotel includes 221 guestrooms and suites, as well as 1500 meters (16,145 square feet) of meeting space in 16 meeting rooms that can accommodate groups of up to 1200 people.
