Last night at the Fairmont Royal York hotel in downtown Toronto, one of the ballrooms was completely transformed into a four-season ‘wonderland’. The setting was perfect for Quebec Tourism’s annual ‘Winter Wonderland’ event, where 22 Quebec tourism partners staged a ‘Discover Quebec’ marketplace for the 200 media guests present. Guests were invited to enjoy the live music and mingle throughout various stations featuring hors d’oeuvres, desserts, Quebec cheeses and other regional specialties. They were also encouraged to visit the Quebec tourism partners to learn more about what Quebec can offer as a four-season destination. One exciting event that will take place in 2008 is Quebec City’s 400th anniversary. The city itself is gearing up for the anniversary year, with a special pavilion, Espace 400e, built in Quebec City’s Old Port area, and celebrations, exhibits, and cultural activities planned for the space. Despite the impressive aerial view of Toronto from the 32nd floor of the Four Seasons Hotel yesterday afternoon, guests of Silversea Cruises’ media reception were focused on water, which is exactly what Vanessa Lee, President of Cruise Strategies had in mind. The recent partnership between Silversea Cruises and Cruise Strategies Ltd. is intended to increase Canadians’ awareness of the cruise line. “We are a marketing and resource company…that will provide enormous backup and resources for Silversea in Canada,” said Lee. “We are here to market the brand. To improve the awareness of the brand in Canada and do whatever it takes to get the retailer and the customer involved in sailing with Silversea.” She is not wasting time. As media mingled over cocktails and hors d’oeuvres, over 70 agents were undergoing training 29 floors below. Silversea, on the other hand, is getting more ships for Lee to fill.
