AIR TRANSAT CELEBRATES 20 YEARS IN FLIGHT
Inaugural flight took place on Nov. 14, 1987; celebrations will take place at Air Transat counters across Canada
With files from Canadian Press
Allen Graham, President/CEO, Air Transat
Air Transat is celebrating 20 years as a Canadian charter airline on Wednesday, a survivor in an industry that is littered with fallen rivals. The first flight took place 20 years ago, taking about 360 passengers from Montreal to Acapulco on a Lockheed L-1011.  The subsidiary of Transat A.T. has proven to be a rare Canadian aviation success story by sticking to what it knows best, said president and CEO Allen Graham. From November 12 to 18, check-in counters at the airline’s eight principal locations —Quebec City, Montreal, Toronto, Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, Paris and London— will take on a festive air, emblazoned with the 20-year anniversary colours. Passengers flying with Air Transat on November 14 will also have a chance to win various prizes drawn on board. [Full text and pictures]

Recently, TRAVELHotNews.com had an opportunity to sit down with Visit Scotland’s Susan Russell, International PR Executive North America, who was in Toronto for the Visit Europe Media Exchange. Each year, abour 161,000 Canadians visit Scotland, which is set to dazzle visitors with some exciting events in the years to come. The city of Glasgow recently won the bid for the 2014 Commonwealth Games in its 20th year, providing further incentive to get to Scotland before the rest of the crowds close in. Other than the Commonwealth Games, another key event in the works is the 2009 ‘Homecoming’, which coincides with the 250th anniversary of Scotland’s national poet, Robert Burns.
