SAMANA: A NATURAL WONDER
Sunquest hosts 160 agents in the Dominican Republic on fam trip from October 16-18
Leyla Emory

Over 160 agents were on the Sunquest Samana mega-fam
Samana provides the Dominican Republic with 80 to 85 per cent of its coconuts. Last week it gave approximately 200 Canadians on Sunquest’s mega-fam a taste of what else it has to offer. Over 160 agents came from Montreal, Halifax and all over Ontario. Located on the north coast of the Dominican Republic, the Samana peninsula, with its palm tree-covered mountains and white sand beaches, is still untouched. There are no high rises or spring-break strips to contend with. Instead, small and brightly painted shanties line the main road, clotheslines carry colourful clothing and locals lounge on lawn chairs. [Full text and pictures]

Tropical storm Noel heads towards Bahamas; spares Eastern Cuba, will skirt Florida
Canadian Press
Tropical storm Noel
Tropical storm Noel triggered mudslides and floods in the Dominican Republic and Haiti, pushing the death toll to 81 Wednesday and forcing some parents to choose which of their children to save from the surging waters. The storm was slowly moving away from the north coast of Cuba and was projected to skirt Florida and batter the Bahamas, the U.S. National Hurricane Center said. A tropical storm watch was issued for parts of southeastern Florida's coast, which was already being buffetted by strong winds and high surf. [Full text and pictures]
