Last year’s contest was a smash hit, with over 300 snapshots submitted by agents from across the country. Other photos featured colourful locations all over the world, including Hawaii, Cancun, Burma, India, and Italy. Any travel-related picture is fair game for entry into the contest, and agents can submit up to three photos.

Air Canada wins for 2nd time in 3 years; over 14 million air travellers polled in Skytrax survey

| Montie Brewer, President/CEO of Air Canada | | Air Canada has been ranked as 'Best Airline in North America' in the world's largest survey of air travellers. The exhaustive passenger survey of over 14 million air travellers was conducted by the independent UK-based research firm Skytrax between August 2006 and June 2007 using 40 different aspects of passenger satisfaction for each airline's product and service standards. It is the second time in three years that Air Canada has placed first among North American carriers. Star Alliance, of which Air Canada is a founding member, was ranked as Best Airline Alliance. "We are thrilled to be acknowledged by air travellers around the world as the best airline in North America for the second time in just three years," said Montie Brewer, President and CEO of Air Canada.

Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver commemorate Mexican artist’s 100th birthday with activities

| Frida lookalike in Toronto | | To celebrate the birthday of renowned Mexican artist Frida Kahlo, who would have turned 100 years old this month, the Mexico Tourism Board put on a series of events in three major Canadian cities to celebrate. This weekend past, from July 27-28, Frida look-alikes donning the braided hair, dark eyebrows and the richly-coloured Mexican indigenous clothing favoured by the artist appeared in high-traffic areas in Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver. They handed out postcards featuring Kahlo’s work as well as information about other Mexican artists. Other activities were held in Mexico City this year in celebration of the centennial of Kahlo’s birth.

Three New European Tour Programs Introduced
Amadeus Waterways has just released its 2008 Waterways of Europe brochure, highlighting a diverse selection of itineraries for the coming year. In addition to the company’s classic itineraries, it has added three new programs for 2008. The first takes passengers from Amsterdam to Paris, another brings passengers from Paris to Barcelona, and the third takes guests on a journey through the ancient monuments of Egypt. The ‘Amsterdam to Paris’ itinerary begins in Amsterdam, the city of canals, and takes passengers through many of Germany’s most beautiful cities and towns, such as Cologne and Koblenz. | Robert Mercure, new GM at Fairmont Le Château Frontenac | | Robert Mercure becomes new GM at Fairmont Le Château Frontenac in Quebec City Richard Payette, Regional Vice President, Eastern Canada & General Manager, Fairmont The Queen Elizabeth, recently announced the appointment of Robert Mercure as General Manager, Fairmont Le Château Frontenac, effective August 13, 2007. Mercure is originally from Granby, Quebec, and was raised in a family of hoteliers; he brings over 25 years of hospitality experience to the position. He began his career at Fairmont in 1999 as Executive Assistant Manager, Food & Beverage at The Fairmont Royal York. In 2003, he was promoted to Director of Operations at Fairmont The Queen Elizabeth, becoming the Hotel Manager in 2005. Last year, Mercure was appointed to his most recent position as Hotel Manager, Fairmont Monte Carlo. Mercure said, “I am thrilled to be joining the world’s most-photographed hotel just as Quebec City is about to celebrate its 400th anniversary.’’

Three new appointments in Ottawa and Toronto Delta Hotels has made three new appointments in Ottawa and Toronto. Katie Bennet becomes the new manager of retention marketing in Toronto. Bennet will be responsible for leading customer research initiatives, and developing and marketing the brand’s key customer retention products. Lesley Mackay is now national account director in Ottawa, and she will be responsible for strategic domestic account development and acquisitions, partnerships and agreements in the associations, sport, SMERF and government sectors. Denise Works is new manager of food and beverage operations, a newly created position at Delta’s Toronto office. She will be responsible for national standards implementation and training initiatives, liaising with hotels.

| AXIMA SERVICES WINS YUL BAGGAGE HANDLING CONTRACT |

French transportation firm wins $146M baggage handling contract in Montreal French transportation firm Axima Services is promising fewer baggage losses after winning a $145.8-million contract to handle passenger luggage at Trudeau Airport in Montreal. The 20-year contract valued at more than 100 million euros gives Axima - a subsidiary of Suez Energy Services - exclusive management of the airport's entire baggage system. That is a global first, the company said in a release from Paris. The cost of the system is paid by the airlines that fly into Canada's third-busiest airport.
