It is a place of great natural beauty, with long deserted beaches framed by rolling sand dunes and the deep blue waters of the Indian Ocean. There are tiny villages nestled amongst coconut and mango plantations. The local people are very welcoming, and the pace is decidedly relaxed, due in no small part to the absence of cars. Donkey and the traditional sailing dhow remain the main forms of transportation. [Full text and pictures]
