Specialty food stores at Canadian and US airports are having to adjust to the new security restrictions in the wake of the foiled terrorist plot in the UK last month. The restrictions, which were introduced after an apparent plot to use liquid explosives to blow-up US-bound planes was uncovered, are forcing airport businesses that sell local food specialties to find new ways to adapt. Employees at Clearwater seafood company in Bedford, N.S., noticed a drop in sales immediately after the restrictions went into place.

Flight returns flight to Pearson Airport

A suspicious package on board an Air India jet forced it to return to Toronto's Pearson Airport last night. Air India Flight 188 was approximately an hour into the flight to India, with a stop in Birmingham, England, when, according to Peel region police, an alert was sounded and the pilot returned to Toronto. Passengers were evacuated from the plane at around 11 p.m. EST.

No transatlantic open skies air services agreement is likely for at least two years, according to British Airways chief executive Willie Walsh. Walsh said any hopes of reaching full open competition between US and European airlines on the North Atlantic had been dashed by the inability of the US to agree new ownership rules for its own carriers. A tentative treaty on open skies, agreed upon last November between the United States and the European Union, has been left hanging by severe domestic opposition in the US to plans that would permit overseas investors more involvement in the running of US carriers.

Name change
