Forget your pre-conceived ideas of Dallas. This is a city on the move. Phillip J. Jones, president/CEO of the Dallas Convention and Visitors Bureau sat down with TRAVELHotNews.com on his whirlwind trip to Toronto last week and told us that the widely held perception of Dallas as J.R. Ewing, cowboy hats, boots and big hair - a view too frequently held even in the US itself - is dated. "In the last three to five years" he said, "Dallas has experienced a $10 billion building boom downtown. People are moving back in from the suburbs and as a result there is an explosion of restaurants, hotels and the arts." Jones used Toronto as a comparison, likening his city to Toronto in terms of steady migration back to the city and the subsequent revitalization that creates.

NCL to launch mega ships
Cruise lines bet that bigger is better

Norwegian Cruise Line is to launch at least two 4,200-passenger ships in a $2.8 billion deal. There is also the possibility of a third vessel being added, as NCL steps up competition against rivals Carnival and Royal Caribbean in the race to deploy mega cruise ships. The first ship is due to be delivered by the end of 2009, the second in 2010. The third would enter service in 2011. ASTA Report: Agents who thrive - not just survive

The American Society of Travel Agents (ASTA) has released an interesting summary of its study of travel agencies that are not just surviving - but thriving. Nineteen travel agencies participated in the study, which found that success was based on three primary themes that were supported by five supplemental themes. The big three themes were customer service, employee empowerment and networking.

Negril Gardens Beach Resort, the cozy 65-room all-inclusive property located on Jamaica's famed seven-mile beach, has closed temporarily while the resort undergoes a major renovation and refurbishment project.  It is scheduled to re-open on November 19. Enhancements are being made to all guest rooms and public facilities including the lobby area and restaurants.Guests booked at Negril Gardens Beach Resort during this time will be offered stays at other Sandals and Beaches resorts in Jamaica.

As part of a strategic plan to refocus its resources on potential growth markets in the Caribbean, Divi Resorts has decided to cease business operations at Divi Tiara Beach Resort in Cayman Brac effective September 23, 2006.Certain economic factors related to operating a dive-oriented resort on Cayman Brac influenced the decision. Airlift was a major issue as dive-guests require additional gear.
