| Phillip Jones | Forget your pre-conceived ideas of Dallas. This is a city on the move. Phillip J. Jones, president/CEO of the Dallas Convention and Visitors Bureau sat down with TRAVELHotNews.com on his whirlwind trip to Toronto last week and told us that the widely held perception of Dallas as J.R. Ewing, cowboy hats, boots and big hair - a view too frequently held even in the US itself - is dated. "In the last three to five years" he said, "Dallas has experienced a $10 billion building boom downtown. People are moving back in from the suburbs and as a result there is an explosion of restaurants, hotels and the arts." Jones used Toronto as a comparison, likening his city to Toronto in terms of steady migration back to the city and the subsequent revitalization that creates.

| Colin Veitch | Norwegian Cruise Line is to launch at least two 4,200-passenger ships in a $2.8 billion deal. There is also the possibility of a third vessel being added, as NCL steps up competition against rivals Carnival and Royal Caribbean in the race to deploy mega cruise ships. The first ship is due to be delivered by the end of 2009, the second in 2010. The third would enter service in 2011. The American Society of Travel Agents (ASTA) has released an interesting summary of its study of travel agencies that are not just surviving - but thriving. Nineteen travel agencies participated in the study, which found that success was based on three primary themes that were supported by five supplemental themes. The big three themes were customer service, employee empowerment and networking.
