Transat's travellers and revenues up
Eustache says he has some "huge deals" pending
Jean-Marc Eustache
Jean-Marc Eustache, president and CEO of Transat says the company's numbers for the third quarter are "satisfying results, given the pressure stemming from intense competition and high fuel prices, which had an impact on selling prices and operating costs respectively." Growth in revenue is primarily attributable to increased business activity. Fuel surcharges and 2005 acquisitions drove revenue growth. Overall there has been a 7.2% increase in the nine month period compared with the corresponding periods in 2005. The numbers are positive with Transat's revenues reaching $611.1 million in the third quarter and $2 billion for the first nine months of 2006. That's up 10.5% and 6.1% respectively over 2005.

Over 450 employees out of work
Just under 100 pilots affected by CanJet's decision to discontinue the regularly scheduled flights and move exclusively into the charter business, met Thursday with officials with Air Line Pilots Association International.
