Seabourn president seriously ill

Deborah Natansohn, President of Seabourn Cruise Line suffered a major heart attack on the weekend and is seriously ill in hospital. The cruise line is not providing any additional information at this time. A well-known and much admired industry executive, Nathansohn has outstanding skills, knowledge and experience in marketing cruises.   As president of Orient Lines, earlier in her career, she was the first female president of a cruise line in the United States.
Natansohn was appointed president of Seabourn Cruise Line in July of 2004, successfully leading the luxury cruise line through a reorganization to create a separate, stand-alone company within the Carnival Corporation family of cruise brands.

Nolitours and Transat Holidays phase out paper

Electronic travel documents expected to improve delivery, environmental efficiency
Effective November 20, Nolitours and Transat Holidays will email airline tickets, hotel confirmations, vehicle rentals, important notices, excursion vouchers and insurance documents to clients via their travel agents. The introduction of e-documents follows a similar change last spring, when Nolitours and Transat Holidays began issuing electronic airline tickets to replace traditional paper formats.

Phillip Pierre, minister of commerce, tourism, investment and consumer affairs for St. Lucia, has been named the new chairman of the Caribbean Tourism Organization (CTO). He succeeds Pamela Richards, former CTO chairman and current commissioner of tourism for the U.S. Virgin Islands. Pierre will serve a two year term. Richards made the announcement this weekend at the 29th annual Caribbean Tourism Conference taking place on Grand Bahama Island.

A post-fire reforestation project near Lillooet, British Columbia is taking root, thanks to a one-of-a-kind gift from Enterprise Rent-A-Car.  The project, managed by Tree Canada in partnership with The National Arbor Day Foundation, a US forestation agency, is part of Enterprise Rent-A-Car's 50 Million Tree Pledge - an historic commitment to plant 50 million trees across Canada, USA and Europe over the next 50 years at a total cost of US $50 million ($56.5 million) in today's dollars.

Smithsonian promotes learning tours

Smithsonian Journeys is making its style of travel, which features tours of the world's great places led by expert study leaders, even more appealing, by giving lifelong learners an incentive to share their educational travel experiences with friends. The "Bring a friend and save" promotion will be available on many of its 2007 international tours and offers savings of US $250 on the trips. The Washington, DC-based Smithsonian trips next year range from the Arctic and Patagonia, to family vacations in Tanzania. European trips are also offered.

Royal Caribbean initiates intern programme
Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines has donated US $35,000 to the Caribbean Tourism Organization (CTO) Education Foundation to support and initiate an internship program for Caribbean nationals looking to further their education in tourism and hospitality.  The cruise line has also committed an additional $25,000 each year to sustain the programme for a 5 year period.
