Seabourne to double fleet capacity
Will spend US $500 million on two ultra luxury ships

Seabourn Cruise Line announced today that it will build two new, ultra luxury ships, for delivery in spring 2009 and 2010.  Seabourn, a division of Miami-based Carnival Corporation & plc has signed a letter of intent for the project with shipbuilder T. Mariotti S.p.A. of Genoa, Italy. The sister ships will have an all-in US dollar cost of $250 million each.

Travel professionals from the Atlantic provinces attended the ACTA Forum at the World Trade and Convention Centre in Halifax, last Friday. Dianne Jackson, who has a noted background in sales and travel, conducted a session on turning obstacles into opportunities. Following the Forum, over 150 travel professionals attended the Addison Travel Show and met with suppliers and a wide range of industry professionals.

Club Voyages, a division of Transat Distribution Canada, recently expanded its agreement with Technology Solutions Group (TSG) to include customised Web sites for all retail locations in Quebec. According to Peter Ouellette, vice president of marketing and business development for Transat Distribution Canada, "The Club Voyages Web strategy was developed by a team of agency owners who identified the current and future online needs of the retail network and we then worked with TSG to launch an upgraded Web site product.

Jamaica Tourist Board appoints Marketing Rep for Western Canada

Appointment recognizes importance of western market 
The Canadian office of the Jamaica Tourist Board (JTB) has announced the appointment of Devonethe Nixon as marketing representative for Western Canada, based in Calgary.  This is the first such appointment by the JTB.  "This appointment recognizes the considerable increase in visitors from Western Canada that we've seen in the past few years," says Sandra Scott, director, Jamaica Tourist Board, Canada.

RBC Travel Insurance presented a cheque for $4,478.01 to the CITC.  The money, which represents the proceeds of the annual CITC/RBC Golf Tournament, will be used for CITC's educational programs and program development to benefit members and provide professional development opportunities to the industry at large. The presentation was made by Mark Linton, vp national accounts, RBC.
Finnair on strike
A strike by Finnair flight attendants has stranded up to 30,000 travellers and is set to continue today after talks between the two sides failed.
