Conquest quits Sunshine State
Aircraft deployed to "more profitable routes"

Conquest Vacations announced yesterday that as of November 1, it is pulling its dedicated Skyservice aircraft out of Florida and redeploying them on other routes. Brent Carnegie, vice president sales and distribution for Conquest told TRAVELHotNews.com that while it is possible that Conquest can get Florida lift with other carriers, no decision has yet been made whether as to whether the company will maintain a presence in the destination. Carnegie said the company's Florida numbers were "not bad, but from a pricing point of view, it just makes sense to shift the planes to more profitable routes."

Caribbean Airlines
Trinidad and Tobago-based Caribbean Airlines has unveiled its new livery and logo. The new look will replace British West Indian Airways (BWIA) on January 1, 2007. Caribbean Airline's new livery centers on a green and blue hummingbird in mid-flight. Beside the hummingbird is the carrier's name stretches in magenta and purple-hued lettering.

Reports warns UK on carbon dioxide emissions
Advocates increased passenger taxes to slow pace of air travel
A report from Oxford University warns that the UK government will not be able to meet its target of a 60% cut in carbon dioxide emissions by 2050 without curbing the demand for air travel and is  pushing for the UK government to take action on air travel and climate change. One of the report's authors Dr. Sally Cairns noted that raising Air Passenger Duty would help to counter reductions in fares, which are estimated to have been responsible for at least 40% of recent aviation growth.

Celebrity Cruises is walking even further down the aisle. The cruise line which has offered vow renewal ceremonies for several years has introduced a new programme in which the ship's captain officiates at the ceremony. Celebrity, in partnership with The Wedding Experience, now offers two packages. True Love Knot Renewal (did anyone say that out loud before they decided on it?) which includes a ceremony presided over by the captain, a commemorative vow renewal certificate, recorded music, bouquet and boutonniere, photos, champagne and cabin breakfast designed by Celebrity master chef Michel Roux and other features.

The New York Times announced that its fourth annual Travel Show will be held February 23-25, 2007 at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in New York City. Presented by American Express, The New York Times Travel Show is the largest travel trade and consumer show in the United States, with more than 26,000 attendees and 400 exhibitors in 2006. The 2007 Travel Show will launch with a Trade Day for industry professionals on February 23, offering seminars, workshops and a preview of the show floor.
