| Hawaii's Big Island | The Hawaiian Islands experienced a strong earthquake at 7:08 a.m. on Sunday. The earthquake measured at 6.5, was followed by several strong aftershocks. The epicenter was located northwest of Hawaii's Big Island. Fortunately, no fatalities or serious injuries occurred. There is no widespread damage to infrastructure or buildings and what damage there is, appears limited to parts of the Big Island, which experienced some landslides and blocked roads.

| Peter Odle | The decision of the United States Congress not to grant an extension for implementation of the Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative (WHTI) past the January 8, 2007 deadline to air passengers could cause economic havoc in the Caribbean. The Caribbean Hotel Association (CHA) is asking all Caribbean Governments to join an effort to minimize the potentially devastating impact and, in individual letters to the Caribbean Leaders, CHA President Peter Odle, outlined the main points of the initiative and the damaging effects of its application to tourism, including hotels, tourism attractions and the tourism industry in general across the region.

Canadian Tourism to Mexico at one million The Mexico Tourism Board, Mexicana Airlines and the Hoteliers of Mexico hosted travel agents, media and other guests at "Mexicana's Autumn Event." The gala evening, in the Imperial Room of the Royal York Hotel in Toronto, included a mini trade show, presentation, dinner, a Mariachi band, dancing and great prizes - including trips to Mexico. Cesar Castaneda, director, Mexico Tourism Board, told us that "over the last five years the number of Canadians visiting Mexico has increased from 400,000 a year to 1 million." The most popular destinations are "Cancun, the Riviera Maya and Puerto Vallarta."

| New Orleans welcomes Norwegian Sun |

First cruise ship to homeport since Katrina

| Gary LaGrange | NCL demonstrated its commitment to New Orleans by having their new vessel the Norwegian Sun homeport in the city. The first cruise ship to do so since Hurricane Katrina. The 1,936-passenger ship docked at the new US $37million ($42 million) Terminal on Sunday. Norwegian Sun will be joined by Carnival's Fantasy, which will sail four- and five-night trips, Royal Caribbean's Grandeur of the Seas, offering a series of seven-night sailings and Princess' Golden Princess which will also sail a series of voyages from New Orleans.

The 550-room Riu Vallarta Hotel, will open in Puerto Vallarta on November 17. It will be the second Riu hotel in the resort area. Riu Hotels & Resorts announced a Grand Opening All Inclusive Special at the new Riu Vallarta Hotel, from US $79 ($90) per person/night for stays from November 17 through December 22. The Riu Vallarta Hotel is located on the world-renowned Flamingo Beach, one of Mexico's most beautiful vacation destinations on the Pacific Coast.
