| Romano Prodi | Alitalia has been given three months to organise a restructuring to avoid bankruptcy. Italian prime minister Romano Prodi said the carrier - in which the government has a 49.9% stake - was facing the worst crisis in its history. "The situation is totally out of control and I don't see any parachutes. We have until January to hammer out a solution to avoid bankruptcy." Dismissing calls for more government money, he said, "It is useless to talk about restructuring or fresh capital when no strategy exists."

With the month-long CruiseFest celebration now underway, Holland America Line (HAL)has joined in the festivities with great consumer offers through Encore Cruises. Guests will receive a 1-2 category upgrade or a shipboard credit, depending on their booking category: one category upgrade with the purchase of an outside stateroom, two category upgrades with the purchase of a veranda stateroom (cat.VE -VA) on Vista Class ships; or a shipboard credit of US$50-100 per guest with the purchase of a veranda suite. Ring tones heard at sea as cruise line enables cell phone service
First it's the airlines installing cell phone capability on board, now the cruise lines follow suit. Crystal Cruises, who last month installed wireless capability on its cruise ships, has announced plans to enable cell phone service on the Crystal Symphony and Crystal Serenity. The Cruise line is partnering with SeaMobile to introduce the technology later this month. Using SeaMobile's Quiet Zone technology, the service will work in certain parts of the ships, while others (presumably the serene and symphonic areas) will be deemed "cell phone-free."

| First Choice bid speculation resurfaces |

Kuoni denies resumption of talks First Choice shares have risen 11.25p to 216.75p - the highest in over five months, giving rise to conjecture that the UK operator and Swiss owned Kuoni are once again talking. Despite a denial from Kuoni, there is much speculation that merger/takeover talks have resumed. Similar speculation involving the two companies was rife this summer in the UK, though nothing came of it at that time.
