Record number of luggage problems for US carriers in August
Travellers in the US experienced a record number of luggage problems this August according to a federal report released this week. New security rules which banned liquids and other items from cabin baggage, took effect August 10 after British authorities discovered a plot that targeted US bound planes with liquid explosives. The results - over 20% more checked luggage and subsequent luggage problems. Passengers reported 437,000 pieces of checked bags were missing, delayed, damaged or stolen. An average of over 14,000 a day, according to the US Department of Transportation (DOT).

All new UK passports have biometric chip
Meets US requirements
As of yesterday all new British passports will have a secure chip with an image of the holder's face. According to the British Home Office the new passport is the most secure ever issued by the UK. The passports have been phased in since March, but now all new British passports will be biometric. The US has insisted that 27 countries whose citizens do not require visas, must issue passports with a chip capable of storing biometric information.
