My Travel North America has announced the appointment of Lars Lofgren as chief operating officer for MyTravel Canada, effective November 1, 2006. "This is a realignment of our executive structure," said Michael Friisdahl, CEO, MyTravel North America. "We already have a very strong management team in Canada. The addition of this position is intended to drive out further synergies and opportunities within the Canadian businesses.  "We have strategic objectives for growth both here in Canada, and in the U.S., and this appointment will also enable me to focus on that growth and expansion," said Friisdahl.

WestJet's Beddoe responds to allegations
Claims email references "unrepresentative and biased"

Clive Beddoe, WestJet chairman and CEO strongly defended himself against charges made in the Globe and Mail yesterday that claimed Beddoe himself had "received, discussed and acted on confidential information obtained from WestJet Airlines Ltd.'s electronic spying against Air Canada in 2003-04." According to the newspaper it had over 100 pages of documents of newly obtained e-mail exchanges showing that the WestJet chairman and chief executive officer "received or responded to more than 45 e-mails that were either sent directly to or copied to him."

Research released from Scandinavian Airlines reveals that there is considerable support from air travellers for the introduction of biometric security measures.SAS regularly canvasses more than 500 members of its frequent flier programme, EuroBonus, to gauge members' views on their business travel needs. 53% of those questioned, believe that the introduction of biometric security will help protect passenger identity and restore confidence in airport security.

Bali as a cruise port
International cruise ship interest growing
Three international cruise operators are currently considering Bali as a turn-around port. Bali's secretary general of the Department of Culture and Tourism, Sapta Nirwandar said the development reflects the growing interest in cruise tourism internationally. While he would not specifically name the cruise operators involved, he did confirm the companies involved are American and European cruise operators, among the 10 largest worldwide.
