The rumours about First Choice were churning in the UK over the weekend and the company has confirmed that the Board has been reviewing how it might maximise the potential of the mainstream tour operating business. A statement issued by the company said the Board, "is considering a range of alternatives in this market and discussions with a number of parties are at a preliminary stage. However, there can be no certainty that any transaction will be forthcoming." That announcement was followed  by a statement from MyTravel Group plc who confirmed that, following an approach it made to First choice Holidays, it is now in discussions regarding the possible acquisition of First Choice's mainstream business and certain related operations. WestJet Comments on Government's New International Air Policy
'What is definition of 'reasonably level playing field?'

WestJet commented today on Blue Sky: Canada's New International Air Policy report that was issued by Transport Minister Lawrence Cannon. Sean Durfy, WestJet president stated, "The federal government's pledge to establish further bilateral air agreements with other countries is encouraging and will provide consumers with more choice and provide air carriers with more market opportunities."Durfy noted that in the report the government has indicated that Canadian carriers be able to compete with a 'reasonably level playing field'. WestJet believes that the definition of what constitutes 'reasonable' must be defined and that two fundamental issues be dealt with, specifically that Canadian carriers get fair access to foreign airport terminal facilities in future bilateral agreements and the issue of uncompetitive taxes and fees be addressed. Regent unveils 115-night world cruise
San Francisco to Fort Lauderdale with 26 countries in between
On January 6, 2008, Regent Seven Seas Voyager will sail from San Francisco. 115 nights later the cruise will end at Fort Lauderdale. Along the way it will have visited 51 ports in 26 countries. Seven segments will be available, each offering 'Concierge Collection' land adventures. The segments include: San Francisco to New Zealand (January 6-30), New Zealand to Sydney (January 30-February 9), Sydney to Shanghai (February 9-29), Shanghai to Singapore (February 29-March 13), Singapore to Mumbai (March 13-27), Mumbai to Piraeus (March 27-April 13) and Piraeus to Fort Lauderdale (April 13-30). Overnight stays are planned in 11destinations including Tahiti, Sydney, Osaka, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Ho Chi Min City, Mumbai and Dubai. [Full text]

Delta Hotels rolls out Travel Agent Express

Discounted rates in December and January
Travel Agent Express, the popular promotion from Delta Hotels, is set to reward the travel agent community for its loyalty by offering deeply discounted rates that will allow agents to familiarize themselves with the company's portfolio. Back for its 19th instalment, the annual promotion will run from December 1, to January 31, 2007. Travel agents will enjoy a special Express room rate of $39 at all hotels and resorts across Canada for up to three consecutive nights, except for Ontario's Delta Grandview Resort and Delta Sherwood Inn, which is priced at $79. Air India chairman, V. Thulasidas confirmed that the carrier has reached an agreement to join Star Alliance, one of the leading groups of international airlines, as a part of its global expansion plans. This would make AI the first Indian carrier to join a global alliance.
