On Friday morning The Cuba Tourist Board hosted a seminar at Toronto's swanky Four Seasons Hotel.Tourism director Carlos Zambrano, welcomed the group and talked of increasing capacity, particularly to the keys area, due to the ever increasing popularity of Cuba. Marketing assistant Nieves Ricardo took over for the seminar and her first question to the group was "Why Cuba?" "Everyone says their island is the most beautiful," said Ricardo, "and there are many beautiful islands in the Caribbean, so what makes Cuba so special?" The assembled group had no trouble with that and the answers came rapidly (each rewarded with a prize). [Full text]


Club Med Cancun Yucatan : A superb inauguration

TRAVELHotNews attended the grand reopening and the party.
The grand reopening of Club Med Cancun Yucatan took place on Friday, November 17, and was followed by a huge party complete with fireworks, gourmet food and celebrations of all sorts. Members of Club Med's senior management were on hand to greet their many guests: journalists and travel agents from all parts of Canada and the US.Everyone was thrilled to see the Village reopening after the 13 month-long closure that had been necessary to complete the renovations, the GOs, managers, the Chef du Village, etc. CEO Henri Giscard D'Estaing presided over the ceremonies and in a brief speech described Club Med's new strategy. WHTI set for January 23 implementation

Air passengers must present valid passports
The US Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has announced that effective January 23, 2007, all citizens of the United States, Canada, Mexico, and Bermuda must present a valid passport to enter the United States when arriving by air from any part of the Western Hemisphere. The push back of the original January 8 date for the regulation, referred to as the Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative (WHTI), was apparently due to a delay in the rule making process, rather than any difficulty with the regulation.  [Full text]



WestJet launches pass for business travellers

Ten flights for $1,700
WestJet has launched a "Travel Pass" for business travellers flying between Toronto, Ottawa and Montreal. The pass sells for $1,700 and is valid for 10 one-way flights (including all taxes, fees and surcharges), for travel through May 31, 2007. According to WestJet, the pass offers significant savings and flexibility with passengers able to transfer the passes between colleagues, friends and family members. [Full text]


Transat offers new room category Mercure Simson Beach
St. Maarten hotel has free upgrades and car rentals
Transat Holidays is offering a new room category at the Mercure Simson Beach in St. Maarten. The Suite Duplex is available for travel from December 23 to April 30, 2007. The Mercure Simson Beach is also offering a free room upgrade. Book a Standard hotel room and guests receive an automatic upgrade to a Superior Lagoon view room. The offer is valid for travel from November 22 to April 30, 2007. Plus, travellers will enjoy a free 3-day car rental with a one week all-inclusive stay. Flight Centre's corporate travel division FCm Travel Solutions recently hosted training by Air France for its Western Canada Account Managers. Seen in the picture  is Charles-Olivier Defaud from Air France presenting an Air France Fam to FCm Account Manager Lee Addison (Vancouver) for winning the internal sales promotion. Joel Katzberg (Vancouver) won second prize (an Air France briefcase and document holder) and Daniel Pelchat (Edmonton) won third prize (Air France briefcase).

 


New Sabre technology for cruise bookings
Facilitates quick searches and saves time
Sabre Travel Network says its launch of Sabre Cruises is its latest enhancement to end-to-end leisure offerings. According to Sabre the increased functionality of the new Sabre Cruises product will allow travel agents to save time, increase revenues and book the best cruises for their customers.  [Full text]

The survey says.
In a recent "Voice of the Traveller" survey, more than 35% of travelers said they were currently interested in traveling to places that cater to children. The majority of those (51%), are 18 - 34 years old, presumably young families with young children. Nearly one in five travelers (18%) said they were MORE interested now compared to five years ago in traveling to places that cater to children.
