Sunwing appointment: Bowers takes new position in Calgary

Sunwing Vacations is pleased to announce the appointment of Emma Bowers to the newly-created  position of manager, business development for the province of Alberta.  Her appointment coincides with the operator's launch of its first departures from Calgary--direct flights Fridays and Saturdays to Cancun and the Mayan Riviera, starting in mid-December. Holland America Line chairman has heart attack

Kirk Lanterman's condition is serious
Kirk Lanterman, Holland America Line's chairman of the board suffered a serious heart attack on November 16 in Seattle.The 30-year company veteran is in serious but stable condition in the intensive care unit of a Seattle hospital, according to the cruise line.His wife, Janet Lanterman, said in a statement "Kirk's situation is serious. But although he has been on life support for four days, his condition has stabilized. The good news is that there appears to be much less damage to the heart than originally thought; the not so good news is that his lungs have weakened as a result of the heart attack. Fortunately there does not appear to be any neurological damage." [Full text]

One of the major upgrades during Disney Wonder's recent drydock was an expansion of the Vista Spa and Salon, including the addition of three Spa Villas. Like the work done on Disney Magic, the villas were built into a former aerobics area, each providing treatment rooms for massages, wraps, scrubs and facials plus a private balcony with whirlpool tub, open-air shower and Balinese day bed. Two rooms can be used by for couples and one is for a single occupant. Spa Villa packages range from just under two hours to 2 two and three quarter hours and include foot cleansing, whirlpool tub relaxation, tea and fresh fruit, and a choice of treatments such as La Therapie HydraLift Facial, Elemis Exotic Lime and Ginger Salt Glow with Half-Body Massage or Elemis Aroma Stone Therapy. Westin commissions study on travel
Travellers often stressed and lonely
Westin Hotels & Resorts have revealed the results of a research study on the physiological and psychological effects of travel. The Travel-Related Responses in Passengers: TRIP Study, was developed in collaboration with research firm International Communications Research. It revealed that travellers are often stressed and lonely, feeling out of control and even sick on the road. The study examined the experiences of frequent business travelers to better understand what physiological changes occur and how travelers feel when they arrive at their destinations. Westin also partnered with Prevention magazine, a healthy lifestyle publication, to create an innovative Travelers' Renewal program, designed to leverage the insights gained from the study to help guests renew their bodies, minds and spirits during their stays with Westin. Delta offers video game demos
Delta Air Lines is partnering with Nintendo to provide customers with access to free video game demos. Interactive demos - including Brain Age, Elite Beat Agents, Clubhouse Games - can be accessed in Delta terminals at Atlanta International Airport. Travellers can easily and wirelessly download the video game demos for free by bringing their Nintendo DS video game systems with them when they travel to or through Atlanta, by standing within a few feet of the DS Download Station and following the simple download instructions. There are six units in the Atlanta airport and plans to soon offer the service at other airports.
