Encore Cruises hosts Tiffany Conference

Last week Encore Cruises hosted their annual Tiffany conference at the Queen's Landing Inn and Conference Resort in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario. For its first Tiffany Conference since being acquired by MyTravel earlier this year, Encore took over the entire Georgian mansion-style hotel from November 14 to 16 hosting over 150 delegates including travel agents, cruise line executives, media and other industry personnel. Stephanie Bishop, vice president, cruise division for MyTravel opened the conference by thanking travel agents for attending, cruise partners for their participation and Encore staff for their dedication and hard work in putting the conference together. "Merging two companies, while committing wholeheartedly to two brands, mainstream and luxury, has had its challenges." She said, "but we have accomplished extraordinary things in a very short space of time." [Full text]


VIRGIN ATLANTIC LAUNCHES £2M ADVERTISING CAMPAIGN
Premium Economy: A lot more space for a little more money

Virgin Atlantic is launching its first Premium Economy advertising campaign in four years to mark the arrival its new seats and new onboard service. The campaign, which began on November 17, will be spearheaded by a commercial run in British movie theatres, print advertisements in newspaper supplements and ads a variety of monthly magazines and business titles.Breda Bubear, Head of Advertising and Communications for Virgin Atlantic, commented, "This new £2 ($4.3) million advertising campaign signals Virgin Atlantic's return as the industry leader in the Premium Economy market." Virgin Atlantic says passengers in Premium want more space and a more business class orientated service and these new developments, along with the new seat, help to achieve that goal. [Full text]

Travelzest plc, the British online travel group offering specialist travel programmes, has announced the appointment of Carol Dray as managing director of flight.co.uk, one of the domains central to Travelzest's online distribution strategy. She joins the Group November 23. Dray was previously at Thomas Cook UK where she was director of e-commerce. Prior to that, she was director of air and dynamic packaging at lastminute.com, Flight Centre UK as commercial and marketing director, and British Airways, where she was leisure sales manager. Celebrity cancels December 10 sailing

Celebrity Cruises has cancelled the December 10 sailing of the Millennium in order to repair the vessel's propulsion system. The seven-night Caribbean cruise was scheduled to sail from Fort Lauderdale. Guests booked on the cancelled sailing will receive a full refund and a future cruise credit for a Celebrity cruise from North America of equal value, departing on or before December 31, 2007.Agent commissions are protected and agents can earn a $50 rebooking fee. Air France to launch budget airline?
Reports suggest Air France is considering its own low-cost airline to be based in Paris. The new carrier, possibly to be named Air France Soleil, would be an expansion of KLM-owned Transavia which offers scheduled and charter service primarily out of the Netherlands. However, any new budget carrier would face considerable competition from low cost European carriers Ryanair and EasyJet.
