The Association of Corporate Travel Executives (ACTE) Montreal Education Conference held November 19 to 21, will provide Canadian perspectives on the Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative (WHTI). The first-annual  ACTE Canada Education Conference will host over 200 business travel professionals.  More than 34 % of the companies represented are corporate travel buyers and over 12 % of the conference delegates are from Western Canada.Greg Goatbe, vice president of the Canada Border Services Agency, will discuss traveller safety and security enhancements, focusing on Canadian perspectives of the Canada-U.S. border issues. London Tourism on the mend
International visitors increase, but domestic visitors go down
Tourism in London is recovering from the impact of the July 2005 bombings. International visitors are up 6% in the first seven months of 2006, with spending increased by 8%. The total number of visitors in 2005 was 13.9 million. The domestic sector, however looks less positive. The downward trend in overnight visits and spend, which began in 2001, is still ongoing. Although this year's numbers on domestic visitors to London are not available, England-wide data shows that the proportion of UK consumers taking trips is unchanged from 2005. [Full text]


Transat Holidays introduces Florida from the Maritimes
Canjet flights from Atlantic Canada
Ft. Lauderdale
Transat Holidays has announced the addition of Florida to its destination line-up from Atlantic Canada.  The Florida programme will include direct flights from Halifax and Moncton between February 1 and May 27, 2007. Departures from Halifax will include a weekly Monday flight to Fort Lauderdale, a Sunday flight to Orlando and twice weekly flights on Thursday and Saturday to St. Petersburg. The Moncton schedule will feature weekly a Thursday flight to Orlando and St. Petersburg. Flights will operate on Boeing 737 aircraft in conjunction with Canjet Airlines. In addition to air only flights, car rentals with Hertz are available. A Florida brochure featuring holiday packages and attraction passes will be available soon. [Full text]

Virgin has British flavour
Airline will offer a "Best of British" menu in 2007
Virgin Atlantic has announced that it has developed a new menu specialising in British produce for its Upper Class passengers onboard flights originating from the UK. The initiative will launch in December complete with a two-week menu of traditional British Christmas food over the festive season. The concept of introducing seasonal specials will be a feature throughout 2007. Andrew Day, Food & Drink Development Manager for Virgin Atlantic, commented, "We tested a 'Best of British' menu earlier this year and our passenger feedback was so overwhelmingly positive that we decided to implement a year long 'Best of British' menu to ensure we could build on the success of the trial and deliver quality food in true Virgin style. Disney promotes on-site rebooking campaign in Florida
Onsite guests offered incentives to rebook
The Walt Disney Co. is testing a six-week pilot programme to solicit repeat bookings from customers at its Walt Disney World Resort theme parks in Florida. Guests at Disney will be offered special incentives to book their next trip prior to checking out of their hotels. From November 8 to December 31, guests who re-book five-night packages prior to their departure from Disney will have free dining added to the reservation, a savings of US $194 ($219). The offer applies to visits between August 5 and September 29. [Full text]

The Queen lights up
The Queen has approved a scheme to illuminate the facade of Buckingham Palace - one of the few major tourism sights in London that is not already floodlit. Light engineers have been told to find an environmentally-friendly and cost-efficient way of carrying out the illuminations.
PBI expansion almost complete
A US$23.6 ($26.7) million expansion project at Palm Beach International Airport is due to be complete by year-end. The project will add 10 security screening lanes in an expanded 9000sqm area at both concourses.
French Riviera Ports set passenger record
Setting a new record, The French Riviera ports of Nice-Villefranche and Cannes welcomed over 500,000 passengers this summer. A 27% increase over 2005.
