Air Tahiti Nui Wins Big
Both the SKYTRAX® independent aviation analysis and readers of Global Traveler magazine have given Air Tahiti Nui top marks in recent surveys. SKYTRAX Awards has named Air Tahiti Nui its 2006 winner in the "Onboard Service Excellence for a Smaller Airline" category. In addition, Global Traveler's "Best of 2005" reader poll ranked Air Tahiti Nui the number two "Best Airline in the South Pacific, Australia, and New Zealand," and sixth for "Best Onboard Service" in the worldwide category. The eight-year-old airline has a fleet of just five wide body Airbus A340-300 aircraft that connect travellers to four continents, including the only non-stop service available from New York to Tahiti.

Air Transat Offers Ottawa-Paris Non-Stop

Starting June 25 Air Transat will fly non-stop between Ottawa and Paris aboard Airbus 310 and 330. "The National Capital region now shows the critical mass of population and demand to justify direct flights between Ottawa and Paris in the high season," said Air Transat Holidays national marketing director, Louise Collignon. The new flight will operate weekly, from June 25 to August 27. "If all goes well, the Ottawa-Paris direct flight will be back in the high season for 2007," added Collignon.

Jazz Loses TCCA Bid
Air Canada Jazz has been denied a court order that it hoped would allow it to continue using Toronto City Centre Airport, the small island airport near Toronto's downtown core while it sought an alternative site. The regional airline, controlled by the same parent company that owns Air Canada, sought an injunction from the Ontario Superior Court after it received a 30-day eviction notice from City Centre Aviation Ltd. on January 31.

Intrawest Corp. For Sale, Open to Mergers
Travel and resort company Intrawest Corp. is looking for a buyer or a partner, among various options, as it tries to boost the value of its stock. The Vancouver-based firm said Tuesday it has begun ``a review of strategic options available to the company for enhancing shareholder value." The options include a capital structure review, strategic partnerships or business combinations. The company said it has hired Goldman, Sachs & Co. to assist in the review.

WestJet Pilots Accept Agreement
WestJet Airlines said Monday its pilots have accepted a three-year agreement on pay and working conditions. The non-union airline - which celebrates its 10th anniversary of scheduled service today - disclosed no details but said the arrangement with its pilots association "will allow WestJet to maintain its low-cost structure while addressing a number of challenges put forth" by the pilots' group.

Bahamas to Host CTC-29
The Caribbean Tourism Organization (CTO) and the Bahamas Ministry of Tourism have announced that the 29th Annual Caribbean Tourism Conference (CTC-29) will take place in the Islands of The Bahamas in October 2006. The conference is the Caribbean region's premier caucus of tourism decision-makers, and an important event on the calendar of tourism practitioners and individuals doing business with the Caribbean. This year, CTO and the Bahamas Ministry of Tourism expect to host more than 600 tourism industry officials representing Caribbean governments, hotels, airlines, cruise lines, travel agents, tour operators, strategic partners and media representatives from around the world.
