Long time Canadian travel and cruise industry executive Vanessa Lee has purchased the Canadian publication Cruise Lifestyles from Concepts Travel Media (CTM) partners Gerry Kinasz and Michael Butler. CTM also publishes Travelweek and operates the Travel and Leisure Show. Lee immediately becomes publisher and CEO. Co-founder and former managing director of Encore Cruises, Lee has spent the last 15 years as a high-profile advocate for cruises and is considered by many in North America as synonymous with the cruise industry.    "I have been a great supporter of Cruise Lifestyles from its inception," says Lee. Visits the MADI Market Trade Show in Prague
Some 20 members of the Canadian travel industry took part in a nine-day Educational Tour in the Czech Republic when the MADI Travel Market Show was taking place in Prague, in November. The organizers of the tour were the Czech Republic Tourism Office, Czech Airlines and ACTA.For two days, the group attended the MADI Travel Market featuring 700 exhibitors from 50 countries. In an effort to personalize their meetings with the Canadian delegation, 100 Central European suppliers joined them at their hotel, the Olympic, and offered seminars and briefing sessions so that Canadian suppliers and travel agents could learn more about Prague and the surrounding regions. On December 3, personnel from The Centers for Disease Control's (CDC) Vessel Sanitation Program conducted a targeted environmental health investigation and an epidemiological review on board the Freedom of the Seas. Gastrointestinal norovirus is suspected to have struck 338 passengers and 43 crew members on the ship. The cruise line said it suspected the illness was brought onboard by a passenger with previous exposure to it, and that stricken passengers have responded well to the over-the-counter medication administered onboard.  [Full text]
