| Hurricane Season officially over |
Mild season attributed to El Nino
This year's hurricane season is officially over. Everyone's worst fears were put to rest as 2005's disaster upon disaster was followed by a considerably kinder, gentler, hurricane season for 2006. This time last year the worst was over, but more storms were on the way and the year's final hurricane, Zeta, was still raging in January. This year's last major Atlantic storm, Hurricane Isaac, was over back in early October. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration attributed 2006's lack of storm activity to the return of El Nino, "a periodic warming of the ocean waters in the central and eastern equatorial Pacific, which influences pressure and wind patterns across the tropical Atlantic."

| Sunwing increases Quebec product |
99% load factor, good yields credited to supportive agents
| Stephen Hunter | | Sunwing appears to be enjoying la belle province. The tour operator, which only recently expanded to Quebec, is dramatically expanding its product from Montreal. Demand from travel agents has been so strong, says Sunwing, that it has been obliged to triple its flights to Punta Cana and will now have three flights weekly. Varadero, is also so popular that a second weekly flight has been added. Sunwing's flights, which started in early November, have been running at a 99% load factor, and many flights are sold out through February 2007. "The agency community has been incredibly supportive," says Sunwing COO, Stephen Hunter, "It's clear they love having a new option - and their trust is paying off."

| Internet bookings fastest growing part of Thomson's UK business |
Expected to reach 60% for 2007
At the ABTA Convention in Marbella this week, Thomson Holidays, sales director, Derek Jones, said that 2005 will see web bookings for his company at 50%, against 36% in 2004. Jones said that a significant proportion of the web bookings are flight-only and that the percentage of growth corresponded with the expansion of Thomsonfly, which will carry 3.5 million passengers on its scheduled services this year. Comparatively fewer package holidays, about 15%, are booked online. Though most packages are booked through travel agents, 'high street' bookings as they are called in the UK, are not seen as separate from the web. Jones said that the integration between the web and the high street was becoming stronger, driven by Thomson's "web prices on the high street" campaign.
