Sunquest to the rescue
Tour operator's flight to Los Cabos is en route

Sunquest is operating an emergency evacuation flight aboard a Skyservice B757 which has flown to Los Cabos today in the Baja Peninsula of Mexico, to evacuate some 225 Sunquest customers currently vacationing in the area. Hurricane John is currently at the top end of a Category 3 hurricane, with winds up to 200km/hr. It continues to lie of the western coast of Mexico. Jill Wykes, vice president customer service, resort management & corporate communications for MyTravel told TRAVELHot News.com that while the "weather is lovely in the area right now, the impending hurricane could make for very dangerous conditions, including flooding and impassable roads."

Competition Bureau sends inspectors to ACTA offices

ACTA confirmed yesterday that investigators from The Competition Bureau went into their Montreal offices. Christiane Theberge of ACTA told TRAVELHotNews.com said the investigators had warrants, as they did when they visited various tour operators, but declined any further comment on an ongoing investigation. The Competition Bureau also visited the ATOQ (Association des tours opérateurs du Québec) offices.

Comprised of the five national tourism offices of Austria, France, Germany, Italy and Switzerland, the ATC is a marketing organization working together in North America to promote and market the Alpine region. The Best of the Alps consists of 12 classic Alpine resorts, long established as tourist destinations.

Royal Caribbean buys European brand

Royal Caribbean Cruises is buying Spanish cruise and tour operator Pullmantur for 430 million euros ($611.3 million). The US cruise giant is also taking on the Madrid-based company's 270 million euros ($383.8 million) in net debt. Pullmantur claims to be the largest cruise operator in Spain with five ships operating in Europe and Latin America. The tour operation sell packages mainly to the Caribbean and inbound to Europe from Latin America. It was formed in 1971 and has 2,600 staff.

Ryanair to allow cell phones on flights

 Four-time World Champion Hoop Dancer, Tony Duncan, performed at Union Station in Toronto yesterday, as part of a promotion to raise awareness of the Arizona Office of Tourism's free IMAX screenings that will be happening September 26 at the Ontario Science Centre. A brilliant hoop-dancer, Duncan amazed crowds with his talents.  Hoop-dancing is an age-old Native American tradition that involves interpretive dance using hoops that symbolize the 'circle of life' and are manipulated to resemble various animals considered sacred to America's indigenous people.
