Thomas Cook appoints Kerry Sharpe to the position of director, corporate communications
Kerry Sharpe
Dean Moore, Chief Operating Officer for Thomas Cook North America, has appointed Kerry Sharpe to the position of director, corporate communications. Sharpe has been with the company for the past five years as the communications specialist and has played a key role in keeping the Thomas Cook brands at top-of-mind within the industry. Before coming to Thomas Cook (then MyTravel), Sharpe worked as a staff writer for Travelweek magazine. CALGARY GETS WESTJET MAUI & HONOLULU SERVICE
WestJet launches new non-stop service from Calgary to Maui and Honolulu; to fly 1 day per week to and from Honolulu until April 25 & between Calgary and Maui until May 1
WestJet recently announced the launch of new, non-stop service between Calgary and Kahului, Maui. The inaugural flight to Maui departed Calgary's International Airport at 7:30 a.m. MT March 6, 2010. The launch of new, non-stop service between Calgary and Honolulu, Oahu began March 7, 2010. The inaugural flight to Honolulu departed Calgary's International Airport at 7:30 a.m. MT. WestJet will fly on a one day per week basis between Calgary and Honolulu until April 25, 2010 and between Calgary and Maui until May 1, 2010. TURKEY QUAKE KILLS 57
Earthquake of 6.0 hits eastern Turkey on Monday; kills 57

A strong earthquake, with a preliminary magnitude of 6.0, hit eastern Turkey on Monday, killing at least 57 people, an official says. The quake struck Elazig at 4:32 a.m. (0232 GMT) and was centred near the village of Basyurt. It was followed by more than 30 aftershocks, including one measuring 5.5. The quake was felt in the neighbouring provinces of Tunceli, Bingol and Diyarbakir.

DR SAYS NO PASSPORT REQUIRED
The Dominican Republic has announced that it will maintain its current entry requirements for Canadians, meaning that they will not require a passport. Under the current entry regulations, Canadians arriving on direct flights to DR are only required to possess valid official photo identification and proof of citizenship. For stopovers in the US, a passport is required. The DR receives more than 800,000 Canadian visitors annually.
