Addison Travel Marketing cancels six Addison shows this spring; cites economy and Olympics
 |
| Rex Armstead | | Addison Travel Marketing (ATM) has announced their decision to cancel six Addison shows this spring, citing “economic conditions and scheduling delays due to the Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver.” “We knew budgets were tight, which is why we cut back to six shows, but even so the combination of recession-driven budget cuts and the Olympics, which forced us to schedule all shows later than normal, means we just do not have the volume or variety of exhibitors to put on the kind of shows both our exhibitors and attendees expect,” said Rex Armstead, president. Both spring and fall shows will return in 2011, said the organization. Keep reading for more news.

| CHILE’S EARTHQUAKE EMERGENCY |
|
Chile hit by 8.8 magnitude earthquake on Saturday; 711 killed
Chile's government scrambled on Monday to provide aid to thousands of homeless people in coastal towns devastated by a massive earthquake and tsunamis, as 10,000 troops patrolled to quell looting, reported Reuters. The 8.8 magnitude quake on Saturday killed 711 people and the death toll was expected to rise further as harrowing scenes of destruction emerged in isolated towns swamped by giant waves triggered by one of the strongest quakes in a century. Many people were still missing in some communities in the worst-hit central region of Chile, which remained largely cut off by mangled highways and fallen telephone lines. Three aftershocks occurred on Monday morning.
