Air Canada launches only non-stop daily flights linking Regina, Ottawa and Montreal with same plane service
Air Canada recently announced that beginning May 17, 2010, it will launch the only non-stop daily flights linking Regina and Ottawa with same plane service to and from Montreal. Flights will be operated by Air Canada's regional partner Jazz. The 75-seat Bombardier 705 jet aircraft will offer a choice of Executive and Economy class, and will feature Air Canada's personal inflight entertainment system available at every seat throughout both cabins. The Canadian Institute of Travel Counsellors, in partnership with Tourism Malaysia, has announced the winners of the Malaysia FAM Photo Contest. Participants were asked to submit photos in each of three categories: Wildlife, People/Culture and Scenery. Sandra Ngoh-Fonseka, Marketing Executive with Tourism Malaysia Canada and Gina Hansen CTC, the co-escort of the FAM and one of the BC & Yukon Regional Council members of CITC, joined in congratulating the winners and runners-up in each category. John Beauvais
John Beauvais to take over at FCm Travel Solutions USA; will begin Mar. 1
FCm Travel Solutions has named a new president for their U.S. division. Corporate travel specialist John Beauvais has been named to the top post, and will assumes the role on March 1, 2010. He moves up from his position as Vice President Airline Relations and Ticket Centre for Flight Centre Inc USA. As part of the role, Beauvais will oversee the future growth and direction of FCm USA's operations, sales and account management for the small to medium and large client markets across the company's North and Latin American networks. He will also be responsible for strengthening FCm's service capabilities to meet the growing needs of the corporate travel market. [Full text and pictures]


INTREPID ASKS FOR PERU AID
Intrepid raises over $18,000 for Peru aid after last month’s floods; asks for more
The charitable foundation of adventure travel specialist Intrepid Travel has launched an appeal to support the people of Peru who were affected by disastrous floods late last month.  The floods have damaged thousands of hectares of crops and left some 10,000 people homeless.  According to Intrepid’s team in Peru, some 320 communities remain isolated, and families face severe food shortages in the coming weeks and months. Intrepid has initiated the appeal with a contribution of over CAD $18,000 and will match all donations received from the public up to another $18,000.  [Full text and pictures]


YHZ RANKS HIGH
Halifax Stanfield International Airport (HSIA) has been ranked the world’s best airport for overall passenger satisfaction in its class (under five million passengers) for the seventh straight year. HSIA was also named by passengers as the second-best airport in North America, regardless of size, behind Austin, Texas. The 2009 Airport Service Quality ratings, based on passenger surveys, were released today by Airports Council International, headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland.

WESTJET STEPS UP TO HELP HAITI
WestJet announces new steps to assist Haiti relief efforts; offers free flights to relief workers, adoptive parents and fundraisers
WestJet announced that it is donating flights for volunteer and relief workers, adoptive parents of Haitian children and fundraising events to assist the relief efforts in Haiti. WestJet will fly volunteer/relief workers from recognized relief organizations operating in Haiti on its regularly scheduled flights from Canada to Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic. The airline will also supply free return flights within Canada to adoptive parents of Haitian children registered with the federal government's Operation Stork program to meet their children when they arrive in Canada. BELGIAN COMMUTER TRAIN CRASH
On Monday, a rush-hour commuter train sped through a red signal and slammed into an oncoming train, killing at least 18 people and disrupting rail traffic in northern Europe. Investigations into one the worst accidents on the Belgian rails were to focus on whether human error was responsible or if it could have been influenced by freezing temperatures. Officials said 80 people were injured, 20 of them seriously in Monday's crash.
