HST TO ARRIVE IN ONTARIO, B.C. THIS MAY Harmonized Sales Tax begins to phase into effect in Ontario and B.C. within a few months. While the HST applies to goods and services purchased on or after July 1, 2010, the HST also applies to prepayments starting on May 1, 2010, for goods or services that will be provided on or after July 1, 2010. This affects passenger transportation services, meaning the HST will be applicable to pre-payments made after May 1 on round-trip journeys to be taken, wholly, after July 1. However, HST will not generally apply to round-trip journeys that commence before July 1, 2010, no matter when payment is made.
