B.C. AVALANCHE VICTIM’S BODY FOUND
Canadian Press
Rescuers have recovered the body of an Alberta man killed by an avalanche on Monday while backcountry skiing in south central British Columbia. RCMP Cpl. Dave Johnson says poor weather hampered recovery efforts Tuesday but crews were able to reach the site when the clouds finally lifted. He says the body of the 30-year-old victim was located in steep and remote terrain on Mount Mackie, near Rossland, B.C., about 600 kilometres east of Vancouver. The man's family has requested that his name not be released.

TRAVELHOTNEWS.COM RETROSPECTIVE 2009

TRAVELHotNews.com Retrospective 2009

TRAVELHotNews.com takes a look back at 2009
Although the new decade is now upon us, it’s time to look back on all the newsworthy events of 2009. Last year saw the effects of the global recession on the travel industry, with a negative effect on the global airline industry. The H1N1 influenza pandemic was another setback travellers had to deal with. In Canada, Conquest Vacations collapsed, and several key players struck alliances, including Sunwing and TUI Travel PLC, as well as Merit Travel Group and Travel CUTS. The retail landscape has also changed, with closures announced at CAA and BCAA storefronts. Two of Transat’s cofounders, Lina De Cesare and Philippe Sureau, announced their retirements in 2009.  Berlin celebrated the 20th anniversary of the Berlin Wall’s fall, and Mexico, Israel and Jamaica posted positive Canadian visitation figures despite a challenging year. And, Canada was finally granted Approved Destination Status from the Chinese government. Inside, TRAVELHotNews.com has compiled the most important news items that dominated headlines in 2009.
